Brazil begins gun buyback program
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil: The Brazilian government is beginning a gun buyback program officials hope will take 500,000 weapons off the streets.
Officials say the program will allow people to turn in guns with no questions asked.
Beginning Sunday, the government will pay between US$60 and US$185, depending on the model and condition of the gun. The program ends in December.
Officials say A similar program in 2004 removed at least 300,000 guns from the streets.

Just last week they made the same offer in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. Knowing that most people need the money, this is a tremendous stimulus to get the people to turn in their guns.
